Menswear pundits already know: When it comes to modern style, we have the military to thank. Loose-fit chinos, shiny aviators, and (debatably) stylish cargo pants all have roots in the United States military before they became civilian wear. American Optical, the eyeglass manufacturer making sunglasses for the U.S. military since 1935, has collaborated with Huckberry for a special release honoring a piece of Apollo 11 style straight from its archives.

The crew who took part in the 1969 moon landing was given a pair of Air Force FG-58 sunglasses to help reduce glare and protect astronauts’ eyes from the shining sun. This week, American Optical reissued that exact pair in partnership with Huckberry, crafting accurate replicas that nail every detail of the shades given to Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong.

The pair has a distinct square shape similar to a pair of aviators, but features 23K gold-plated frames, which further reflect sunlight away from the eyes. Each temple is capped with an old-school, yellow-tinted bayonet tip designed to eliminate helmet interference. It also, coolly, comes with a white carrying case that replicates the original 1969 pair and a cleaning cloth with the Apollo 11 lunar module. Pricey? Sure. But you can bet that this stock won't last long among space collectors.
